The Hankook iON Race is ready for the double-header in Indonesia

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is heading to Asia. Round eight of Season 9 takes place from 2nd to 4th June in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, which is located on the northwest coast of the island of Java. Following the first appearance of Formula E in the city with a population of roughly 10 million in 2022, the series now returns for a double-header, with Jakarta hosting races ten and eleven of the season. The climate, in particular, could have a real impact on the performance of the Hankook iON Race, which has so far mastered the diverse challenges thrown at it in the tyre’s first season in Formula E. “The very high temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius and humidity over 80 percent are definitely one factor that the teams must take into consideration when working with our premium product, the Hankook iON Race. In all the races so far, the tyre has shown how reliably it supports the drivers,” says Hankook Communications Director Felix Kinzer.

New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy travels to Asia brimming with confidence. The driver from the Envision Racing team won the last two races in Germany and Monaco. The latter of these two victories saw him take the championship lead with 121 points. In second place, 20 points back, is German Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team). Lurking in third with 96 points to his name is Britain’s Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti Formula E).

For decades, Hankook has been one of the first ports of call when it comes to international motorsport. Hankook supplies its race tyres to globally-renowned series, high-class junior formats and popular grassroot events. With new collaborations and partnerships, the company is constantly enhancing its status as a global player on the motorsport scene. Since the 2023 season, Hankook has been the exclusive technical partner and tyre supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. In close cooperation with Formula E, the iON Race was developed for the world championship. Roughly 30 percent of the high-performance tyre is made of sustainable materials. With this commitment, Hankook is taking another pioneering step towards energy efficiency and sustainability in motorsport. The premium tyre maker has also agreed a collaboration with Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini Squadra Corse, and has been official technical partner and exclusive tyre supplier of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series since 2023. The premium tyre maker’s portfolio covers a broad spectrum. This includes the FIA ERC4 Junior Championship for young and talented rally drivers. Hankook also supports popular touring car championship TCR Italy, many high-class one-make cups for a wide range of renowned manufacturers, junior single-seater series, and assorted international racing events with race tyres and technical know-how.
