Formula E Meets WRC: Hankook Unites the Worlds of Motorsports

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, 23 September 2025 – Premium tyre manufacturer Hankook has unveiled a new brand film that brings together two of the FIA’s most prestigious world championships — the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship (Formula E) and the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

As the exclusive supplier of racing tyres to both series, Hankook draws on its dual presence to create a unique narrative that bridges two very different motorsport worlds.

The brand film leverages Hankook’s tyre technology as a bridge between Formula E and WRC, uniting the two distinct racing disciplines in a single narrative with the goal to deliver a dynamic portrayal of the company’s technological leadership in motorsports.

Formula E’s Maximilian Günther (DS Penske Formula E Team) and WRC’s Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team) take the spotlight in the film, swapping the all-electric GEN3 Evo race car with the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car and vice versa for a full immersion of each other’s driving experience. Hankook’s Senior Motorsport Director, Manfred Sandbichler, also made a surprise cameo appearance in the film, signalling the start of the race.

A highlight of the film features dynamic, side-by-side footage of the GEN3 Evo iON Race electric racing tyre and the Dynapro R213 extreme all-weather rally tyre, each fitted to its respective vehicle. The sequence visually demonstrates Hankook’s race-proven technology across two distinct motorsport disciplines, emphasising its versatility and performance.

The film captures the drivers’ first-hand experiences with Hankook’s tyres in unfamiliar racing environments. “I had full confidence in delivering a strong run thanks to Hankook’s exceptional grip and stability,” said Maximilian Günther after driving a rally car for the first time.

Adrien Fourmaux, on his maiden run in a Formula E car, added, “The tyres delivered consistent grip and sharp responsiveness at high speed, enabling me to approach the race with complete composure.”

Recognising the contrasting demands of the electrification-based Formula E and the mechanically driven WRC, representatives from both championships praised Hankook’s ability to excel across disciplines.

“WRC embraces innovation and from the outset, that is exactly what this project has been about. It was fantastic for us to be able to join Formula E, to get insights into their world and share with them the thrill of WRC. This of course would not have been possible without Hankook, with whom we are continuing to grow and evolve in the first year of our fruitful relationship,” said Arne Dirks, Chief Marketing Officer of WRC Promoter GmbH.

“It is a rare and exciting opportunity to see cars from two of the FIA's world championships taking to the same track at the same time. This video really demonstrates the impressive variety in terms of format and technologies that are offered in top-level FIA competitions, with innovation tailored specifically to the unique challenges of racing and rallying environments. It goes to show that there is not one single solution when it comes to either racing or the wider mobility landscape, and that the core DNA of motorsport is consistent regardless of the category. Thanks to our colleagues at Hankook, Formula E, WRC Promoter and Hyundai for making it happen," commented by an FIA spokesperson.

“As the world’s most progressive and competitive motorsport, Formula E has always been bold and ambitious in its approach to success. What has been central in our DNA, however, is pushing the boundaries of performance. What this film demonstrates is that not only are we here to disrupt and innovate, but develop world-leading expertise and new technologies,” said Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E.

In response, Hankook’s Senior Motorsport Director, Manfred Sandbichler, added, “Hankook's technology and quality, trusted by leading motorsports entities such as Formula E and WRC, continue to deliver outstanding performance. Like our motorsports slogan 'Race Beyond Limits', we remain committed to innovation and the ultimate driving experience.”

Hankook will roll out the brand film, along with behind-the-scenes footage and short-form content, in stages across its global website, YouTube, Instagram, and other official social media channels.

Beyond Formula E and WRC, Hankook is the exclusive racing tyre supplier and a team partner in more than 70 FIA-sanctioned motorsport competitions worldwide. This extensive involvement continues to strengthen the brand’s global reputation for innovation and premium quality.

Leveraging data and insights from these competitions, Hankook aims further advance its technologies through its robust R&D infrastructure — including the Technoplex headquarters, the state-of-the-art Hankook Technodome, and Hankook Technoring, Asia’s largest tyre proving ground — reinforcing its technological leadership in the global tyre market.
