The GR Cup Spain got the new season up and running from 15th to 16th March with two exciting races at Motorland Aragón. As early as the opening qualifying session, it was clear that the field was extremely evenly matched: Beitske Visser secured pole position on her debut in the GR86, but a mere 0.8 seconds separated the top eight. The consistent performance of the Hankook Ventus Race ensured that even the smallest of mistakes from any of the drivers could be decisive. In the opening race, it was Daniel Losada who climbed into the lead after a strong start from fourth on the grid. The tyre’s high grip levels helped him to attack early and maintain a consistently high pace. He was followed home by Tomas Pregliasco and Marco de Diego. The latter, last year’s runner-up, underlined his title credentials with a fine third place.
The second race developed into an intense showdown between Visser, de Diego and Tony Albacete, with Albacete ultimately coming out on top after a dramatic three-way battle. De Diego was second across the finish line, making him the weekend’s overall winner.
